I wish I knew the maker of these striking, very finely made bowls, but have not been able to decipher the signature or the mark that appears near to base on the side of one of them. My guess is that I'll find out after I've sold them that their maker is quite well known! I believe they were soda fired, yielding this wonderful warm rusty red color with mustard yellow highlights, and they feature very finely incised banded designs, distinct on each. They stack nicely for storing but I'd put them on the table whenever I could, and they'd be fine to put in the oven first to heat up. Really a beautiful, very finely made and unique pair of vessels.
Sold as a pair. The bowl with the "X" design at center of each side measures 6 7/8" across at wides and 3 3/4" tall. The bowl with wider incised band near the lip measures 7 1/8" across at widest x 3 7/8" tall. Both are in excellent condition with no signs of wear of flaws. Each is signed on the underside and there is a mark on the side of the one with the wider banding.
