Another one found this week in Maine, and this carved bust of a woman with thick head of seemingly wind-blown hair looks a lot like the figurehead at the bow of a ship to me. (It thus seems right that she might have taken a bump to the nose at some point along the way!) Well carved, making great use of the grain of the wood, which adds to a sense of dynamism, as if she's pushing her way through the world, with a wonderful sort of wildness and strength.
8 13/16" t x 5 1/8" w x 5 1/4" d and better in person, with a warm dry wood patina. I do believe a small loss to the tip of her nose, quite some time ago as the wood has aged well since. Otherwise very good condition.
