I've bought and sold a handful of old treen apples, which this coin bank very much reminds me of, but I've never seen another like this. On the underside of the lid, written in pencil in very careful cursive, is "Fernald," surely the name of its original owner--though I might wonder if written by a family member or friend gifting the bank, as it seems like the perfect thing for a Christmas stocking! Late 19th/early 20th century I believe and very lovely, with just the right amount of wear around the coin slot to tell us it was used.
2 1/2" d and in very good condition, with no cracks or splits, easy to open and holds tightly closed.
