Femme en Couche (15th Century), 1860 Hand-colored French Print, Trimmed and Framed

Regular price $60.00

Something about this veiled woman under her pink blanket with yellow  pillow at her feet just would not let me go. Perhaps there's a bit of the Handmaid's Tale about it all that makes it feel (frighteningly) contemporary, and I felt the need to rescue her! The hand-colored lithograph dates to 1860, published as plate 151 in the folio ‘Costumes Historiques des XIIe, XIIIe, XIVe, et XVI siecles’ by Camille Bonnard, published in Paris by A. Levy Fils. It was trimmed down from its original size.

Framed: 10" x 9". Some scattered scuffs and stains as detailed. Under glass, with great surface to the black stained wooden frame--looks like an antique veneer with newer wooden back.
