I've had a few old carved cats with great folky faces in the shop, but this is for sure my favorite, and I think it is quite an old one. The stain is definitely original to the piece and has aged to yield a really wonderful surface with mustard yellow undertones, and then creamy white paint for the whites of the eyes, with big black painted pupils. I could look at this face all day, with the alert, carved out ears perfectly framing the long slope of a nose, and then this truly perfect crooked line of a smile. Really really great.
Excellent--I assume antique--condition, with no splits or cracks or notable rough spots. 5 1/8" l x 4 1/2" t x 1 7/8" w.
