Such a curious vase, and I think quite a charming one, with these highly stylized stacked animals on opposite sides rendered in matte baby blue. Hand-thrown then trimmed and I believe salt fired, the stoneware vessel itself feels Japanese, but then this giraffe, pig, bird, and I'm not sure what (!) turn it into something else entirely!
I've just learned this piece is a quintessential example of the recent work of Bowdoinham, Maine-based ceramicist Jeffrey Lipton. It is initialed JL at the bottom of one side. Excellent condition. 8 7/8" tall x 2 1/4" d.
