Maybe not precisely my usual sort of thing, but I really really love this drawing, which I purchased from a NYC based dealer with many wonderful things, and who alerted me to it being an ink drawing rather than an engraving--which I had to get the magnifier out to believe! So finely and beautifully executed--look at the details of his hair and beard and face. The crutch like staff upon which his hand rests is a yogadanda--used by yogis and ascetics to support the arm, align the spine, and regulate breath flow during meditation. And I must say his presence is quite a grounding one--I'll be very glad to keep him around for a while or forever. This is not my expertise, but I believe early 1800s.
Framed: 14 1/4" x 12 3/8". Sight 6 5/8" x 5" Excellent condition, professionally framed as found, with just some scattered paint loss to the surface of the old frame, I don't think at all detracting.
