Extracts Vol.4, Densely Packed, Far-ranging Medical Research Notebook (Ship Medic?) with Excellent Red Leather, Anchor Embossed Cover

Regular price $50.00

This one sold me on the red leather with embossed golden anchor cover alone, especially with that evocative hand inked "Extracts Vol. 4" at top. Inside, its pages are very densely and completely filled with notes of a medical nature, though I must admit I have not been able to make great sense of them. They cover quite a range, for notes about the brain and nerves, heart and circulatory system, and various sorts of treatments it seems, but then also notes about of the size of the population in England in the early 19th century and the average ages of various animals, and a quote from Milton, too. Lots of what seem citations of research/publications by others and I'm really not sure what all. Seems quite possibly notes for (definitely ambitious!) book its author was preparing to write. Lots to dig into here, though I will say it takes some effort to decipher the writing and to try to follow. Photos, taken somewhat at random, give some sense.

6 1/4" x 3 15/16". About 70 pages densely filled front and back. General wear to to covers but overall quite good condition, I believe c. 1850s or so and likely British.
