I've become quite a fan of old whimsy rattles made of interlocking bits, and this is as about as elaborately carved and constructed one as I've seen, and also one that feels especially "tramp-y." I love the combination of the intricateness of the rattle itself and the very folky, not quite heart shaped heart at the top, too. Strongly graphic, with three different tones of stain.
7 3/4" l x 3 3/8" x 3 3/8". Great condition, no losses, sturdy and sound and fun to shake around. C. 1920s-40s or so I believe.
