I must say I like the back almost as much as the front of this early stereoview, with fancy cut and adhered label simply reading "Botanical Anatomy."The photos seem one part specimen obsession and one part early Victorian diorama of the whole world encased under a dome sort of variety. I presume it is actual plant specimens that have been painstakingly arranged, but there is certainly an ethereality about it--almost as if an x-ray view--and definite otherworldliness. Wonder-full.
6 7/8" x 3 5/16" and in excellent condition. 1860s I believe, with an embossed stamp along the top edge clearly reading London Stereoscopic and then Patent I believe, the rest a bit hard to make out.
