Early Bennington Potters Turquoise Glazed Snack Plate & Mug Set, Signed David Gil

Regular price $90.00

This is a terrific turquoise glazed Bennington Potters mug and snack plate set, I think never used, which feels to me super 1950s and very contemporary at once. David Gil founded Bennington Potters in Bennington, Vermont, in 1948 with original name of Cooperative Design, which is how the plates are marked, and I know they date to between 1952-54. They are signed by Gil.  The "trigger mugs," date just little later I believe; three of the four are also stamped with a dg, while one has a different mark, I believe just a bit earlier than the others.

The mugs are a treat to use, and rest nicely in the recessed circle with incised star design at the tip of the plates making these the perfect coffee with treats set! They are in excellent condition, with just one little flaw to the edge of one plate, pictured in photos, and one thin slice in the clay on the bottom of one plate, original to the making.

I'm including one photo of them paired with a mauve glazed arts and crafts vase listed separately as I love the color combo a lot! Plates measure 8 1/8" from tip to opposite side, and 6 3/4" in length on the short side; 3/4" tall. Mugs are 4 1/8" tall x 3 1/8" in diameter; 4 3/8" across at handle.
