This painting, oil on tin, just struck me as quite a nice one, with a satisfying moodiness and sense of symbolism to it. The season for daffodils is half a year away as I write this, but the painting feels to me as much about the fading as the blooming, with the tips of a number of the leaves curling to brown, and the shadowy golds and grays of the ground enhancing a sense of late-in-the-day-ness. All the while the full blooms are really lovely.
15 7/8" x 14". Oil on tin. Very good condition. Signed--it looks to me like S.E. Athearn. I'd guess 1910s-20s.
