Admittedly, I don't know much about old carved molds, and am not someone who gets especially excited about butter molds or gingerbread molds, etc., but I did get excited--and curious--about this old book shaped mold, with a framed cross carved into both faces of it to define it as a bible. There are five carved and interlocking pieces here--the two faces, a carved spine of the same height, and then two shorter pieces which fit into the top and bottom grooves of the faces, though they don't quite stay in place. I'd display it more or less as I've photographed it (perhaps absent the two short pieces), perhaps sandwiched in between real books on either side. Found in Maine and antique I am sure, with a wonderful warm dry patina to the wood.
Larger panels measure 6 1/2" x 4 5/16" x 13/16" thick. Spine measures 6 1/2" x 1 5/8". Minor warping to the wood, as documented.
