Omg, this girl! I think she's got about as much personality as any doll I've seen, amplified many times over by the years she has endured! She's made of oil cloth, with this fantastic hand-embroiled face (those eye lashes!) and sculptural rolls of yarn for hair, and I believe is stuffed with cotton batting. I especially love her hands, with individuated fingers, outlined in pink stitching, and there is more pink reinforcing seams here and there. Whatever clothes she once had are long gone, but I think her enduring lace-trimmed pale pink shorts suit her pretty well--and also handily conceal a tear at her crotch! Quite a character.
14 inches tall by about 4 inches wide with arms down and 2" deep. She's got an ink stain on the back of one arm (looks like a large birthmark to me!), one bald spot on her head, not much visible unless viewed from above, and a few lost stitches around her neck. Otherwise, plenty of wear but structurally sound and stable, and the crotch tear is really not a concern with her shorts on. I'd guess 1930s or so but am not 100% certain; I don't think later than that, though.
