Crazy Dog Folk Art Doorstop

Regular price $40.00

What a dog! One finds a fair number of handmade doggy doorstops from the 1940s and 50s (I wonder if they were something people made in shop class? they were definitely a thing...), but this one is especially good in its crudeness and weirdness, with these completely uneven ears, crossed eyes, and I'm not sure what the black line is crossing just above its mouth! Really, just right.

Signed on the bottom, justifiably so, but with the first name painted over in black so only the last name, Belding, is visible. 5 1/4" tall x 3 1/8" wide x 5 1/4" deep. There's a small chip in the wood on the edge of one ear and small scrapes and dings here and there but overall good condition--great on a shelf but definitely could serve as a good doorstop still.
