Plenty of foxing and stains on this old sketchbook page of drawings done by one Emma Ackerley in 1870, but I love the drawings so much there’s no way I could pass it by, and I find this combo of cottage with green tile roof and open scissors below strangely satisfying. Great details too, especially the shutters and curtains of the cottage, points on the picket fence, and tiny little pump out front. Signed not once but three times by our Emma, dated 1870, and then her location: Sing Sing, New York, the village on the Hudson which changed its name to Ossining in 1901 to separate itself from the notorious prison! On reverse a cow and some flowers.
9 5/8" x 7 1/2". A bit of minor tearing/folding around the edges and toning/foxing/staining as evident, but stable and not too brittle.
