In her bonnet and wide collar and with a determined look one her face, this lovely Winifred makes me think of Hester Prynne--and surely she too has a story to tell. Just a wonderful portrait I think, pen and ink, and with all of the cross hatching surrounding her lending a sense of drama and intensity. And then this perfectly tiny handwritten "Winifred" to very quietly caption her.
5 1/2" x 3 1/2". Good condition, with some scattered stains, all to the good I think. Signed EL Shade, late 19th/early 20th c. I believe. Unused postcard back.
