This page came out of an oversized British ledger dated 1895 which was originally used for maintaining the register of the National Amalgamated Society of Coopers--a trade union representing coopers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In the 1940s, however, Douglas and Nancy Webster, two school children, took hold of it and used it for their own purposes! This is one of two hand-drawn game boards found in it, somewhat akin to the game of Life but specifically portraying a series of twists and turns along the course of a drive. The other one I believe was done by a parent, imparting the idea to the the kids, but this one is all Nancy, and quite exuberant! I especially love her depiction of child stuck in the giant bog, and her drawing of a very cheerful home at the end of the journey! One could certainly grab dice and any little things to serve as markers and play it now. And then on reverse, two scenes from "The Hillman and the Housewife," which is pretty amusing!
