1830s Very Scarce Stone China Transfeware Mug with Dogs and Cats

Regular price $125.00

I can't find documentation of the likeness of this one anywhere out there, and no real wonder--who would ever part with these pups on one side and cats on the other? The tan underglaze is the akin to the flat, light tan one sees on early mochaware, and here a great decorative transfer border on the interior rim as well. The form as well as the specific iteration of the Thomas Godwin mark date it c. mid 1830s, and it is closer to  full scale than child sized, though I presume made for a child. With applied handle, raised exterior rim border, and these very very sweet pet friends!

13 1/2 t x 3 5/16 d x 4 9/16 handle and in good antique condition, no cracks or repairs, just a bit of staining to the interior, rim of base and underside, and a few smudges original to the original transfer. Marked Thos Godwin Burslem Stone China on the underside.
