I just adore the painted water-skiing woman on this vintage handkerchief box, a souvenir from Coney Island circa 1950s. Constructed of leather-covered cardboard with a red fabric lining, it's definitely seen some use, but I think is all the better for it. If no longer for handkerchiefs, I think it would be terrific for holding love letters, or else an assortment of trinkets collected on various travels.
The box measures 5 3/4 square and 1 5/8" tall. As documented in photos, the strap that would be used to snap the box closed is fairly tattered.
