A great old handmade noisemaker/knocker/clapper--not quite sure the best word, and it also might be well described as a fidget toy. I've not seen another quite like it, with the knocker the scale of a mallet (or gavel!) There is major satisfaction to flipping it back and forth such that the mallet/gavel slaps loudly against the flat, over and again...one can at least dream of justice delivered!
5 7/8" w x 6 1/2" t x 2" d. Good condition, works just as it should, producing satisfying loud knocks. Late 1800s or so I believe. Looks like mallet has creeped a hair out from the post to which it is nailed (exposing that bit of lighter wood) but seems well attached, presenting no issues, sturdy and sound.
