An early tintype of a pretty, poised looking girl in a lovely calico dress, with what looks like a swath of matching fabric draped over the side of whatever it is she is resting her hand upon. The gold foil frame--embossed "Union" (with flags, shields, swords and flowers all around and the year '61)-- combined with the wear and wounds to the tintype itself, give it an added sense of weight, imparting our girl's soberness with a feeling of determination and endurance!
3 3/8" x2 15/16". Surface wear and darkening to the tintype as evident, and a little tearing to the foil as it wraps around the edges of the front--it's all holding together okay but is a bit delicate.
