So lovely, I am guessing this is a box that was built around the lid--i.e, the jar to which the lid originally belonged was broken along the way, and this wooden box was custom built to fit it. I am certainly very glad they made the effort, and love the pairing of the blue and white with the dark wood. The lid itself, 19th century Chinese export porcelain I believe, features a pagoda in landscape and is very finely done; I especially love the border of tiny little arrows and the wonderful sculptural berry shaped handle at the center.
The box measures 6 1/4" long x 5 1/4" deep x 5 3/8" tall (the lid alone measures 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/2"). Very good condition, no chips, cracks, or other visible flaws on the porcelain. The wooden box shows some loss of veneer along the top edge, not visible with lid on.
