This lovely old checkerboard-type parquetry egg-shaped finial surely once attached to something, possibly a stair post, or maybe a piece of furniture. Now, I think it makes for quite a satisfying tabletop object just on its own--the wood is beautiful and the elongated egg form really elegant--though it would be fun to see it put to use as the topper for a whole new construction!
5" tall x 2 1/8" in diameter. The wood is worn and aged, with tiny nicks and scratches all over, but no splits or cracks and still looks terrific.
