I found this charming little wooden Japanese Kokeshi-type boy on turtle in a box of odds and ends at the estate sale of a man who had served in Japan during WWII and brought a lot back with him. It just pulled at my heartstrings—I especially love that the dutiful turtle, serving as the perfect life raft (and wonderfully painted with waves on its lower half) seems to be grimacing all the while! Just a darling little object to have around, and a reminder to appreciate those on whose backs we ride!
The piece measures 2 1/8" tall x 2 1/4" long x 1 5/8" wide. There is certainly some wear to the paint in spots, but I think it just adds to its charm.
