This charming little silhouette carving of a Victorian-style ladies' boot stands up proudly on its own, and features deeply incised then blackened detailing for the laces and across the toe, and then 1917, presumably the year of its making, on both sides. I am not entirely sure of the stone; it may be marble but I'm not quite certain. The white irregularities seem for the most part to be indigenous to the stone rather than dings to the surface, though I think there are a few small scratches here and there, of no real consequence. Really a wonderful, lovingly made little object and reminder, more than a hundred years after its making, that time keeps marching on!
