This mushroom! When I first spotted it, I thought it was ceramic, but closer inspection reveals it is definitely bone, and I am pretty certain antler, most likely Caribou I think. I really love it as an object--exactly the scale of a real mushroom, and just what it is, beautifully executed, no fuss. I've found a few other carved antler mushrooms, almost all Canadian (morels carved from deer antler seem to be a bit of a thing), but none as lovely as this one. It is initialed LR on the bottom and dated '74, which I assumes stands for 1974, though the beautiful quality of that tiny bit of text recalls the handwriting of an earlier era, making me wonder if it might be possible this was made a hundred years prior to that? Whatever the case, a wonderful little curiosity the feels great in the hand and stands proudly upright on the shelf.
2 7/8" tall x 1 3/4" in diameter at widest; 3/4" across at base. Very good condition, there may be a bit of roughening around the bottom edge of the dome but minor if so.
