C. 1850s Sixth Plate Daguerreotype of Two Sisters in Matching Dresses

Regular price $70.00

It’s the striking graphicness of the checkered prints on the dresses of these two that really sold me, but their very stern faces most definitely make it all the better. I also like that—clearly instructed to fold their hands—they did so in different ways, the one on the right hiding her thumb. And, with their upper arms pressed right up against each other, it almost feels as if they’re joined like Siamese things--which would explain their unhappy looks!--and, together with their dresses, gives it a little bit of a Diane Arbus feel.

Sixth plate in original foil frame but without case. Very good overall condition, with minor degrading along left edge. A bit of glare caught in images. Framed: 3 3/8" x 2 7/8".
