Boy Hopping, Boy and Dog, Small 19th Century Wood Engraving

Just a small, two vignette 19th century wood engraving, which feels to me as if straight off a Staffordshire pearlware child's mug or plate. I was just drawn to it--something quite compelling to me about the gesture of this boy at top, hopping on one foot, holding the other leg aloft, and with the opposite hand raised--perhaps a game of hopscotch, or maybe he's about to hop over a candlestick. And then boy at bottom in what I take for a sailor-suit, pointing his dog toward something. The scale of the engraving makes it feel as though there was a specific context for creation/distribution of it, but I'm not certain what. 

 2 5/8" x 3 5/8", black ink wood engraving on light cream wove paper, c. mid 1800s British I'd guess, very good condition.
