Black Cat on Roof with Headphones Antique Hand-colored French Postcard

Regular price $28.00

Such a fun one! I just double checked and it was in 1910 that engineer Nathaniel Baldwin invented the first pair of audio headphones resembling modern day pairs (at his kitchen table); it is a bit hard to read the postmarks on this old postcard, but I think it dates to not long after, I think 1915. Whatever the case, what a great image of this black cat on red roof with yellow headphones plugged into a sort of wire prism suspended between the clouds, with one paw raised as if conducting an orchestra in the sky!

It's a bit hard to tell, but I think the maybe the outlines of the the image were printed, and then it was hand-colored, and signed Rene at right center. I'm not totally sure about the the "de Contreneville, par T.S.F" reference, but the text on reverse is in English and a good deal about little French dogs! Some scattered light stains and one red smudge on front, but so great still. 3 1/2" x 5".
