"Birthday Souveigner" 1891, Charming Little Homemade Booklet of Drawings and Verses

Regular price $75.00

Just the sort of find that makes my day, a little homemade drawing booklet dated Aug.27, 1891, and titled "Birthday Souveigner" in watercolor on the cover, though our birthday girl did not sign her name. Two kittens in their hat, another in a shoe, and a little dog named Jack sitting behind Maggie looking like a very loyal companion. Plus a basket of fruit, a seated woman in hat ("Fashionable Press,"  a bit like Anna Wintour sitting in the front row), a tennis match watcher, a (c)rude farmhouse, and, my personal favorite, a portrait of "pensive thoughtfulness," I might guess a self-portrait! Plus a couple of pages devoted to poems.  All tied together with a blue silk ribbon.

4 3/4" x 3 3/4" not including ribbon. 10 pages plus cover, drawings on one side only. Very good overall condition, no loose pages, some toning to the paper of the cover and a bit of minor dried leaf loss. Cover features a watercolored border, and hand-cut scalloped edges to the pages all the way through. Found in Maine.
