These would once have functioned as pocket flashlights, also sometimes called torches, but they've been stripped of their bulbs and their batteries--now they're just handy canisters, with glass lenses at top, bearing very excellent graphic patterns, which is why I love them. Yum. I might use them to stash business cards, or spare keys, or secret notes--and indeed, opening at both top and bottom, they seem like just the right vessels to use for passing coded messages back and forth. C. 1940s, German I believe.
Green: 3 15/16" x 2 5/8" x 1. Blue/red 4 1/16" x 2 5/8" x 1".The hinged bottoms of both open easily but the top of the red and blue one is tight and I didn't want to force it; there is no sign of rust so I assume with a little more effort it would open.
