This herbarium is undated, but I know the portfolio itself, designed by C.S. Jackson and published by Rumford Supply Co., South Weymouth MA, has a 1906 copyright, so would think this dates to the first quarter of the 20th c. or so. On the inside cover Agnes Gilbert lists the 16 samples she carefully preserved and detailed for her Botany II course, which are all still enclosed, each on the right side of a paper folio, with details about the specimen on the left. I've done a tiny bit of mending with acid free archival tape to a couple of samples where a bit had come loose, but for the most part found them completely in tact. And, as a happy product of time passed, the left side of each folio shows a silhouette of each specimen shadowing the text as a product of age toning, which I find really lovely.
Photos show each folio as well as several pages of printed instruction/information original to the portfolio. These would be beautiful framed but also nice just to keep as is and pull out on occasion to admire.
Portfolio closed measures 11 1/8" x 9 1/8". Folios measure 10 5/8" x 16 3/4"; each half 10 5/8" x 8 3/8". Not especially fragile and paper is not brittle.
