It took me a little help to figure it out, but surely this bowl was once a basket--there is a one remaining piece of the handle on the interior of one side, cut cleanly to the height of the bowl, and two nail holes visible on the opposite side, where the handle would have ended. I find it very beautiful in its current state though, with the angled grain of the wood where the end lap perfectly complementing the outwardly angling form of the bowl. I think probably it was a berry basket, and would be beautiful now filled with a big pile of berries, or anything, or nothing!
7 5/8" in diameter x 3" tall. Good, sturdy condition aside from the loss (or intentional removal perhaps) of the handle, with a some fairly minor splitting on one side as pictured.
