This horse makes my heart ache I find it so beautiful--so humble and graceful and just right in its green paint. I would guess it was originally a rocking horse, with a couple of old nails still in its feet via which it must have once attached to a rail or base, though I’d be wary of putting much weight on it! I know that it was found in Pennsylvania, and that it lost two of its legs at some point, perhaps removed in order to add eye hooks on the back to hang it, though those may have come later, I'm just not sure. In any case, perfect for hanging now, with beautiful alligatoring to the paint, and just the most sparely carved features on the face. Gorgeous.
21 inches long measured straight across as if hung, 14 3/8" tall, 15/16" deep not including hooks. Wired on the back for hanging straight away. Structurally sound and in very good shape, but I would be a little gentle with it. Late 19th/early 20th century I would think.
