The great care invested in painting the clothing on this small carved figure moves me to no end, especially the fantastically beautiful patterning representing a traditional Greenland Inuit beaded collar. (I am including a photo of another doll with gorgeous hand-sewn costume for reference, which the elaborate coloring on this one echoes very closely.) I can’t find another example of a painted wooden figure quite like this one out there—I am sure made for the tourist trade, but I think with some age to it, and just wonderfully done. I'd guess 1920-40s or so and to my eye just so lovely.
