As I’ve said before, antique sailor-made macrame baskets feel like such special things to me—in some part at least because I really like the image of sailors finely knotting these baskets to kill time, and also the idea that they, like sailor’s valentines, were often made as love tokens to be gifted upon return. And it does feel like there was a whole lot of love as well as considerable skill invested in this one, with spiral design (looking a bit like a propeller!) at the center of the lid--about as beautiful as they come. It was given a good coat of varnish or similar so as to be quite stiff and perfectly preserved.
7 1/16” in diameter x 2 7/8” t. A great warm brown, in pretty much perfect condition, extremely durable, and just lovely.
