Artesania Rinconada "Classic Collection" Tiger, Uruguayan, 1970s

Regular price $28.00

I didn't know anything about Artesania Rinconada ceramic animals when I found this tiger, but I've since learned that there was quite a menagerie of them, the creation of t Uruguayan twin brothesr Jesus and Javier Carbajales, who launched their production in 1972 in Montevideo. Spanish born (the brothers moved to Uruguay with their family after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil war in 1936), they give their collection of animal creations a Spanish name, Artesania Rinconada, translating to “corner art,” as, apparently, they created their work for many years in one corner of their living room!

Hand-carved of earthenware and finished with enamel glaze over white slip, it measures 3 3/4" long x 2" tall x 1 3/4" wide. Excellent condition, and signed AR on the underside of one paw.
