I don't buy much online these days as I really prefer the thrill of going out and digging for things myself, but this one I bought from online seller in Ohio, and think is quite extraordinary. It's an antique, hand-carved dress form that would have been used by a tailor either making fine doll clothes or perhaps doll-scale sample garments--and quite a busy tailor they must have been as there are pin pricks all over it, especially down the front for marking the bodice and all around the base for marking the hemlines. The hand-carved form itself, with deeply pointing waist, suggests late 18th century to me in terms of style of dress; I'm not completely certain the age of the form but it is most definitely very old, and I believe likely once had jointed arms and a post at the neck. Really a wonderful, unusual and evocative thing, with a surface that invites all sorts of imaginings of all of the outfits born atop it!
Quite substantial in size" 12 3/8" tall x 7" widest x 6 3/8" deepest, solid wood, and heavy (I forgot to weigh but would guess 4 lbs or so). Very sturdy and stable, with heavy wear/some loss on the sides at the shoulders and at the neck, which I don't think detract and do not threaten its structural integrity. Also a bit of loss around the edges of the bottom, minor.
