I first grabbed this sharpening stone because I just loved the box in which it is set, which is wonderfully worn, with a terrific dark stain on it. I then opened the box to discover the whetstone inside--making this quite the useful box, and one that I think would be terrific in a farmhouse style kitchen with worn butcher block countertops!
The top of the box seems to have met the tip of many blades, which gives it great character and patina. There is one fairly deep cut in the wood extending from one corner on the top, as documented in photos, and the stone appears well worn with a dip in the middle from use. The box measures 9 3/4" long x 2 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall.
