1881 Naive Graphite Drawing, David and Goliath (?) - Repaired

Regular price $15.00

I found this small drawing torn in two pieces that had been carefully kept together, and found it way too good not to bring home; I have since added a bit of archival tape across the back to hold it together. I'm not certain, but my guess is that it portrays (a marvelously tiny and wonderfully energetic!) David about to miraculously wrest Goliath's sword from his grasp and behead him with it. I really love everything about it, perhaps those very long, spindly arms of our Goliath most of all. To my sensibilities, so very good.

4 9/16” x 3 3/16”. Tear and some scattered staining as evident--but actually perhaps the tear makes it better, alluding to the impending beheading! Dated on reverse Dec. 30, 1881.
