Antique Makah NW Coast Native Cedar Bark Basket with Birds and Boats (One Area of Damage)

Regular price $65.00

This antique Makah (NW Coast native) basket is not in perfect condition, but it is a beautiful example, of a nice scale, and with the damage not visible from top or front, one might forget about it entirely.  With four long ducks swimming around the lid in a circle, three long canoes interrupted by one duck swimming around the body, and a gorgeous patina to the grass of a very warm honey color. Late 19th/early 20th century.

5 1/2" d x 3" t. Damage, thoroughly documented through photos, is to one area of the cedar bark rim (over which the lid still fits well), with some concavity of the body of the basket in that area. With lid on, the rim damage is not evident, though the recession to the body is visible when viewed from that side.
