This lovely little olive wood snuff box was purchased in France years ago, and I believe it was most likely made by a Napoleonic prisoner of war while in captivity, c. 1850s. It has endured very well, with the lovely star made of inlaid mother of pearl bits at center still firmly in place, and surrounded by a decorative pattern of tiny brass nails. The back hinge is still tightly attached as well, and the front snaps closed in a most satisfying way. Very sweet.
The wood, which I have not touched, shows some spotting, but is still in very good shape and this box is in really excellent structural shape. 3" long x 1 3/4" deep and 1 1/4" tall. The interior is clean and in excellent shape.
