A total charmer of a box I think, with dovetail jointed hinged lid, brass clasp on front made to hold a small lock, original creamy white paint, and this marvelous, exuberant leafy tree, flowers and vines painted in dark green and gold on the top-- looking vlike just the sort of antique school girl drawing I'd jump on immediately, but all the better for being attached to a functional object! Large enough to hold some tools or sewing supplies or all sorts of other things, and for me at least quite joy inducing.
15 1/8" l x 7" t x 7 1/2" d, super solid and sturdy and heavy (weighs about 7 1/2 pounds), and joined it looks to me by a combination of carved wooden pegs and old iron nails. There are a couple of small holes in the wood on the top, as documented. Overall very good condition, with nice aging to the paint and scattered scuffs and wear attesting to its use.
