Never a bad thing to honor Courage, Character, and Service, and this 1925 bronze American Legion School Award does so quite beautifully I think.
The American Legion was established in Paris in 1919 under the leadership of Theodore Roosevelt to deal with the needs and well-being of the nearly two million veterans returning from France after WWI, and in 1922 established a School Awards Program to honor outstanding graduating students. This medal to honor young women, and a different version for male student honorees, were designed by Dr. Robert Tait McKenzie (1867-1938). Other versions of the award have been designed since, but this I believe is by far the loveliest.
2 1/2" in diameter x 1/8" thick and in excellent condition. Great as a paperweight and a thoughtful gift for a stellar young person!
