I haven't been able to definitively place A. Botschan, but this is about the most beautiful name plate as I've ever seen, which makes me think either he was a sign maker, or he bothered to hire a very good one to make a sign for whatever business it was that he was in! Gold foil for the face of the letters with reverse painted glass surrounding them--black for the ground and red and gold paint for the shadowing on the letters. To my eye just gorgeous and certainly inspiring one to want to imagine a whole life for our A. Botschan!
10" l x 2 5/8" t. 1870s-80s I would guess, and in very good condition.
