I always have an eye out for great stools that would make great pedestals to arrange other things atop, and I think this is quite a special one, 19th c, in its original decorative paint, with wooden pegs joining legs to wide and top, holding completely tight and sturdy as can be. I’m not sure whether the paint would technically be referred to as faux grain painting but it is of that ilk, a wonderful mix of red and black and brown and gray. To my eye just about as good as a cricket stool can be. Found in Massachusetts and I am pretty certain native to New England.
