I found this box on my second loop around an antique show in NH this past week--it took a little slowing down to notice this simple 19th century writing/document box in its old and best blue paint, but once I did there was no way I could leave it behind. And the clean lines of the simple, unfussy box deliver the color in the best possible way. I believe a writing box, with a slant to the cut of the hinged lid (visible from the sides) and supports along the edges inside for a tray (no longer present), with plenty of room inside for old papers, or present correspondence, or whatever. Would be equally good amidst other old painted and "primitive" things or in a very minimalist setting, where it would feel very crisp and also very serene.
11 7/8" w x 7 3/4" d x 4 3/4" t. Very good antique condition, with surface/paint wear just where it should be. Hinges in very good condition, lid opens easily and closes square and tight.
