I've become a big fan of Victorian era wirework--such great lines, and casting such great shadows, and I love how present the hand of the maker feels. And the form of this two-tiered basket is just terrific I think, right down to those wonderful scrolled feet! I found a very similar piece recently sold at auction, which makes me sure it is late-ish 19th c, American. I was thinking it would be THE perfect thing for displaying a beautiful collection of old stone fruit!
Light rusting but overall very good condition. The flared baskets can be opened out or closed up a little as desired. The stem holding the top basket tilts just a bit, which I love, but could be straightened with a little force if one wanted. It stands sturdy on its feet. 14 5/8" tall x 12 1/4" widest diameter.
