I have not been able to identify the C. Friburgh who signed this watercolor, which surprises me some, as it is very finely done. Photos don't give a great sense of the richness of the sea itself, which was painted with hundreds of fine brushstrokes in a range of blues and greens, which make it feel as if we're out in very deep waters witnessing the scene. And then these wispy white clouds popping against the tan board, which it feels as if the sails of the boats are slicing right through like knives. Crisp, concise, and beautifully executed.
7 1/16" x 5 1/16" ink and watercolor on art board. Very good condition, with scattered small toning spots visible in the sky.
